Nikki- In our culture women have more freedom to do what they want and have the freedom to chose who they want to marry. In their culture women are treated like worthless things that should only be thinking about beauty and following orders. Women in our culture are more respected, and have more of a say in what they want to do, and politics. In the their culture, women have no rights, like they can't vote, and they can't even chose who they want to marry.
in the novel, they are seen as vessels for bearing preferable sons, so they are worthless until they bear a son. women also had a servile role in the household. today, people are all equal and we're like, omg friends <3. btw, i wiki'd footbnding, and it is gross!! :O
okay, i need 2 say moar stuff. so everyone is equal in society, and often we guys are extra nice to girls, b/c of chivalry n stuff. yay,us of a !!!!!!!!!!!!
emily- today girls are treated as individuals that bring something society with their own ideas and thoughts. In the asain culture experianced in "Snow flower and the secret fan" girls are treated as useless children that use up needed resources. they are not important in a household and woman try not to love their daughters so they do not have to experiance pain when their daughters leave. The only way for women to survive in the asian culture was to marry into families that would feed them. Today in our culture woman can live independantly and do not need to depend on their husbands or faamilies. everyone has an equal chance at life in our society.
