The Relationship Between Author and Text

  • in what ways has the author's life experiences influenced her story?
  • What elements of her life are included in the book? Why do you think the author chose to include these in the story?
  • What aspects of the author's life are not included in the book? Why do you think she did not include them?
  • Overall, do you consider this book to be authentic? Why or why not?

  2. Lisa See was raised into an Asian culture, which surely inspired and influenced her stories. In many of her books she writes about the Ancient Chinese way of life which she learned about at a very young age.
    In Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, the family's way of life doesn't give them the opportunity to travel, which is something that See is fond of.
    I consider this book to be authentic because of the detail that is used to portray their way of life.
